New Spring Sport Coming to Sparks Parks And Recreation

When the Sparks Parks and Recreation didn't have enough softball teams playing at Golden Eagle Regional Park on Monday nights, they thought why not add a spring season of adult kickball.

Sparks Parks and Rec is adding adult kickball to their spring lineup because of its incredible popularity during the fall.

The game you probably remember from the playground as a kid and adults are ready to relive childhood out at Golden Eagle Park.

"I’ve never had a team go out there and try it and say, ‘That wasn't what we expected and that was no fun.’ Every team that goes out there and plays it has a blast. I mean, it’s just like when you were kids," said Tony Pehle with the Sparks Parks and Recreation.

All types of groups come out for kickball including businesses, churches, and friends. The rules are a lot like baseball except you're out by getting hit with the ball. You can throw the ball anywhere except at the head.

Pehle says physical injury is uncommon.

"No one gets hurt, I mean their egos might get hurt when they go 0 for 4 in a game of kickball."

Registration to join the spring league runs through April 23. The cost is $350 per team for a 10 game schedule with double headers.

Kickball games will be held on Monday evenings, May 2 – June 27, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the sports complex at Golden Eagle Regional Park, 6400 Vista Blvd.

Register for the spring kickball league at the Alf Sorensen Community Center, 1400 Baring Blvd. Office hours are Monday/Wednesday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday/Thursday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, 12 p.m. To 6 p.m.
