High Wind Warning, March 13

A high wind warning goes up for the mountains and the Washoe and Carson valleys, from Wednesday at 11pm through 2pm on Thursday.

Look out for strong easterly winds 30 to 40 mph in our Reno valleys and 50 to 70+mph winds in the Washoe and Carson valleys, Lassen and eastern Sierra and Plumas counties, and for the mountain areas around Lake Tahoe, with downed trees and power outages possible.

Reno will see 30 to 40 mph wind gusts Wednesday night through Thursday morning, secure everything outdoors and watch out for blowing dust near our dry lakebeds with reduced visibility on the roads.

No precipitations is expected with this wind event and we stay dry for the next several days.

Caution on area lakes with wind advisories up for choppy boating conditions where Lake Tahoe could see waves 3 to 5 feet high.

The wind will settle down this weekend with sunny skies and mild 60s for afternoon temperatures lasting into next week.
