Today is the day - the 33rd annual Share Your Christmas Drive-by Food Drive is now underway.Â
You can help make a difference in our communities by helping to feed families facing hunger by donating either non-perishable food items, money, or both at one of our FOUR donation locations, which are located throughout the region on Friday, December 12, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
We hope you can come out and give; every little bit counts!
Although the Food Bank of Northern Nevada is at the helm of this event and provides for all locations, each of the four individual donation locations collects donations in the name of a specific charity, who are partner agencies of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino will be collecting donations directly for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.Â
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN) is a non-profit organization that grew from a small pantry in 1983 that was run by several local volunteers to a regional distribution center, to Northern Nevada's leading hunger relief organization that has been going strong for more than 40 years now.
FBNN says that last fiscal year, they provided more than 23.1 million meals for neighbors who faced hunger. Â
The FBNN says their mission is feeding the hungry today and solving hunger for tomorrow through community partnership, that every meal served, every caring food package delivered transforms lives, hunger touches every corner of our community, affecting people from all walks of life – your colleagues, your child’s classmates, and the seniors who have built our neighborhoods, individuals who represent the heart of our future and the wisdom of our past.
FBNN says in Nevada, one in five children faces food insecurity, a challenge we strive to overcome together.
FBNN says they provide food for families in need through more than 140+ partner agencies across northern Nevada and the eastern slope of the Sierra in California, and direct service programs. They say they serve more than 160,000 people every month, almost half of whom are the community's children and seniors.
This will be the Food Bank of Northern Nevada's 33rd year partnering with 2 News Nevada for the Share Your Christmas Drive-by Food Drive, an event that gives back to those in need throughout the community.
