A California man convicted of drug trafficking will spend at least 10 years in prison.
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says Juan Cabrera-Bonilla was sentenced to 25 years after pleading guilty to Trafficking a Controlled Substance 400 Grams or More.
In January of this year, the DA's Office says Cabrera-Bonilla was pulled over for speeding by a Washoe County Sheriff’s K9 deputy. They say he told the deputy that he and his wife were driving from Fresno to Reno to gamble in the casinos.
Authorities say while he was placed in handcuffs, Cabrera-Bonilla made statements such as “it’s my fault” and “everything in the car in mine,” while also mentioning methamphetamine.
During a search of the car, the DA's Office says deputies discovered more than 17 pounds of methamphetamine.
Cabrera-Bonilla will be eligible for parole in 10 years.
