Two people linked to the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County face more than a dozen felony charges after a grand jury indictment.
The Nevada County District Attorney’s Office says the criminal grand jury indicted Jamie Jones and Christopher Wackerly late last month after a nearly two-year investigation.
"The indictment alleges embezzlement, grand theft, money laundering, mortgage fraud, insurance fraud, perjury, forgery, and related offenses, along with special allegations that the conduct involved a pattern of related felony activity resulting in losses exceeding $100,000, an aggravated white-collar crime enhancement under California law," says the district attorney's office.
The DA’s office says the grand jury found probable cause that the duo misappropriated taxpayer funds over a six-year period, instead of using the funds for “critical fire prevention and community safety purposes.”
Prosecutors say they anticipate both people will be formally charged on the charges in the coming week.
Nevada County jail records show that Wacklerly was booked into jail last Friday while Jones has not been booked yet, at the time of this writing.
