Highway 89 around Emerald Bay in El Dorado County is closed in both directions.
The closure is due to unstable snow, according to a post on X from Caltrans District 3.
Caltrans warns this could be an extended closure, as crews need clear conditions to reopen the road, and another storm is expected next week in addition to the one moving through the region now.
