More than $31,000 of meat and seafood fraudulently purchased from distributors in Sparks and Reno was recovered in an investigation by the Regional Crime Suppression Unit.

On August 15, the RCSU was assigned to the investigation, according to a release from the Unit.

Investigators monitored the delivery of the meat and seafood to an address in Paradise, California.

When the delivery was completed, Juan Jose Yepez Garcia, who received the order, was arrested by Paradise Police.

The person transporting the goods was temporarily detained, but released when it was found that they did not know the merchandise was stolen.

In the course of the operation, 12 large deep freezers full of stolen meat and seafood were found and returned to Nevada in a refrigerated truck to be properly disposed of.

RCSU is in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for Garcia for the Nevada-based criminal charges.

RCSU is a regional team comprised of Detectives from Sparks and Reno Police Departments.
