UPDATE - AUGUST 7:
Water quality near Camp Richardson Resort is improving, though daily testing continues, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit via Facebook.
The public is still advised to avoid water in the immediate area of the resort.
Recent testing on August 2 showed that water near the Valhalla Boathouse and Pier (west of the resort) and Jameson Beach (east) meets state water quality standards.
Pope, Kiva, and Baldwin beaches were not affected.
Advisory signs remain posted at the resort and will be removed once testing confirms the water meets state requirements.
The Forest Service thanked the public for their patience and the Camp Richardson Resort for its quick response.

ORIGINAL STORY - AUGUST 4:Â
The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has shared news of a lake water quality precaution for the area of South Lake Tahoe near Camp Richardson.
According to a release from the USFS, water samples were collected from the South Shore of Lake Tahoe near Camp Richardson Resort recently that showed high levels of Escherichia coli, otherwise known as E. coli.
A sewer line inspection was immediately done by the resort and has located a leak that is in the process of being repaired.
No illnesses have been reported, but the USFS warns that the public should avoid recreational waters that have been tested and found to have high levels of E. coli.
The USFS says that tests have been done in nearby shoreline locations that do not indicate elevated bacteria levels, and that no other areas of the lake have been affected.
The USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and the Camp Richardson Resort are working with El Dorado County Environmental Management, Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to post signs near potentially affected water and investigating all potential sources of contamination.
