Containment continues to improve on the 3-1 Pit Fire burning near Little Valley in Lassen County.

CAL FIRE reports the wildfire has burned 1,055 acres and is now 40% contained. The fire started Tuesday afternoon near Little Valley and Wilson Springs roads, southeast of McArthur.

In a social media update Friday, the CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit said all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

JULY 9, 3:40 P.M. UPDATE:

Firefighters battling the 3-1 Pit Fire rescued six abandoned puppies while working on the fire lines in Lassen County.

According to the CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit, a Devil's Garden firefighter crew discovered the puppies and brought them to their division/group supervisor. The supervisor then worked with a Lassen County Sheriff's Office deputy to safely transport the animals to the Lassen County Animal Shelter.

"A heartfelt thank you to the Devil's Garden crew, the Lassen County Sheriff's Office, and the Lassen County Animal Shelter for working together to ensure these puppies are safe," CAL FIRE said in a Facebook post.

Evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings in Lassen County as firefighters continued to battle the 3-1 Pit Fire near the Little Valley community, west of Dixie.

At the time, CAL FIRE reported the wildfire had burned more than 1,055 acres and was 5% contained.

Residents in the area were urged to remain prepared in case evacuation orders needed to be reinstated.
