A woman is behind bars after allegedly assaulting people with a baseball bat and leading deputies on a high-speed car chase on Wednesday morning.
On July 8, just after 10:30 a.m., the Washoe County Sheriff's Office responded to multiple 911 calls reporting that a woman, later identified as 35-year-old Bria Klein, was allegedly assaulting people with a baseball bat at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
Witnesses reported that Klein allegedly hit at least one victim with the bat before fleeing in a dark blue Honda Accord with a University of Nevada, Reno license plate, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.
A deputy found a car matching the description and tried to pull it over, but the driver fled, driving at speeds over 90 miles per hour in 50-mile-per-hour zones and running multiple red lights, the Sheriff's Office says.
At one point, Klein allegedly stopped on North McCarran Boulevard near Sutro Street before intentionally backing into a WCSO patrol vehicle.
Despite efforts to contain her, she was able to drive away and continue south on U.S. 395, the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies lost sight of the car near the I-80 interchange and called off the chase.
Shortly afterward, officers with the Reno Police Department located the car after it was in a crash near the intersection of Virginia Street and Kietzke Lane.
Klein fled on foot but was quickly arrested.
Two Washoe County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles suffered minor damage while attempting to stop Klein, but no injuries were reported.
Klein was booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on the following charges.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Driver Evading, Eluding, or Failing to Stop on Signal of a Peace Officer, Endangering Other Persons or Property
Destroy or Injure Real or Personal Property of Another ($250 or Greater, but Less Than $5,000)
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line at (775) 785-9276, referencing case number WC26-3733.
