A 1,000+ acre wildfire is burning in the Clover Valley area of Elko County. The fire started around 1:45 p.m. on Memorial Day, south of Wells, in the east Humboldt Range.

Firefighters are making progress towards containment. About 10 engines, one fire suppression module, two dozers and two helicopters are helping with the fire. More crews are expected to arrive through Tuesday morning.

Firefighters say it originally started from an agricultural burn and escaped outside the containment lines.

According to fire officials, Agricultural burning is a tactic used by ranchers to reduce fuel, improve grazing conditions and help lower wildfire risk.

Fire crews will stay at the scene over the next several days. Firefighters say as dry conditions continue, extra caution should be used during open burning activity.
