A local dermatologist will be performing free skin cancer screenings on Tuesday, May 7.
Dr. Whitney Hovenic, along with some of her colleagues, is holding the "Biggest Little Skin Cancer Screening" from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Greater Nevada Field.
“Anyone who has skin can get skin cancer, and with more than 300 days of sunshine here in the Truckee Meadows, we have a little higher risk of developing skin cancer if we’re not extra vigilant with sunscreen or other preventive measures,” Dr. Hovenic said. “The great thing is that if we find abnormal growths and cancerous lesions early, we can easily treat them, sometimes right in the office.”
No insurance is required, and checks will be performed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Attendees are asked to wear loose-fitting clothing so doctors can easily check your neck, arms, legs and back.
Those who work outside or spend lots of time outdoors are especially encouraged to attend, although anyone is welcome.
Attendees can also enjoy snacks and drinks and will receive a sun safety swag bag with free sunscreen and a guide for spotting suspicious moles.
People will be able to park for free at the parking garage on Ballpark Lane.
