A weeklong celebration shines a light on educators and the impact they have on students daily this week
The Washoe County School District is marking National Educator Appreciation Week from May 4 through May 8, highlighting the role educators play in shaping students of all ages.
This year’s national theme is “Teachers Create Magic,” a message district leaders say reflects the work happening every day in classrooms and across campuses.
“Our educators work hard to help our students learn and grow, and their contribution to our community and our world is enormous,” Superintendent Joe Ernst said. “They see our children every day, whether in the classroom, on the school bus, in the hallways or offices, and their interactions help instill a love of learning for our young people. No matter where they work, each of our district team members is an educator in their own way, and the magic they create with our students is at the very heart of our educational mission. I salute all of our educators for the work they do and the impact their work has on our future.”
The district is encouraging the community to recognize educators for their work helping students explore their interests, build skills, and prepare for future goals.
As part of the week, schools are planning Spirit Week activities, and several local businesses are offering discounts and incentives for educators.
The WCSD Board of Trustees is also expected to read a proclamation during its public meeting on Tuesday, May 12, recognizing the contributions of educators and district staff.
2 News Nevada also recognizes educators across the community and thanks them for their dedication to shaping young people.
