NHP warns of text scam involving fake fines .jpg

Troopers are warning drivers across Nevada about a scam that could cost you if you are not careful.

According to the Nevada State Police, drivers may receive text messages demanding payment for alleged traffic violations. The messages can appear legitimate, but troopers say they are not real.

Nevada State Police say they will never send legal notices or fines by text message, or ask for payment through a link or QR code.

If you receive one of these messages, troopers say not to click any links, scan QR codes, or send money or personal information. They also recommend reporting the message as spam and deleting it.

Troopers say the goal of these scams is to get personal or financial information from people who may believe the message is legitimate.

Authorities are reminding drivers to remain cautious and to verify any communications about fines or violations through official channels.
