After a seven-year hiatus, REDRUN, a zombie-themed running event, returns to historic Virginia City this Saturday.
Participants can expect to see costumed zombies throughout town as part of the event, which organizers emphasize should not be mistaken for an emergency situation.
The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. and includes controlled course areas for runners, volunteers, security staff, and first aid stations.
Organizers are coordinating with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency services to ensure the safety of all participants, spectators, and residents.
According to the official REDRUN website, the event is “the most authentic zombie run on the planet in one of the most haunted locations in the world.” It has been recognized as one of the best zombie events in the nation by Yahoo! It was also said to be one of the top quirky races in Nevada by Travel Nevada.
REDRUN combines elements of a run, escape room, and capture-the-flag game, leading participants through some of the town’s most chilling landmarks as they attempt to “escape the abominations of Armageddon.”
The course features Dead Zones filled with zombies, obstacles, haunted buildings, and Revive Stations with drinks.
Since its first event in 2013, REDRUN has followed an evolving storyline each year. Past themes have included outbreaks, quarantines, and power struggles among survivors.
This year’s chapter, REDRUN VII: The Resurrection, continues the saga as the stronghold of Virginia City faces new chaos following years of uneasy peace.
Those interested in joining the event can still sign up through the official website. A full schedule and registration details are available at visitvirginiacitynv.com.
