The Nye County Sheriff's Office has released information about a 2010 case of human remains that were found near Current, NV.

In July of 2010, the remains were found in a rural area near Current.

The following November, the remains were transported to the University of North Texas Anthropology Department so that they could be examined and possibly identified.

The university found that the remains belonged to a young Native American boy, aged somewhere between nine and thirteen years old. They also were able to learn that the remains were part of an ancient burial and a positive identification would not be able to be determined.

Nye County officials got in contact with the Bureau of Land Management and the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe and made arrangements to return the remains to the tribe for a ceremonial burial.

On May 14, 2025, the remains were returned to the historian of the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe.
