A months-long investigation by the Elko Police Department Crime Suppression Unit has resulted in the arrest of three people tied to a narcotics trafficking network bringing dangerous drugs into Elko.
The investigation began in October 2025 and revealed a network of traffickers supplying narcotics from multiple cities across Nevada and from California into the city of Elko. Detectives with the Crime Suppression Unit spent countless hours conducting surveillance, interviewing people, and executing several search warrants targeting key members of the network.
The operation led to the identification, location, and arrest of three people responsible for transporting narcotics into the community. During the investigation, detectives seized about two pounds of powdered fentanyl and 3.3 pounds of methamphetamine. Officials estimated the fentanyl alone has a street value of $272,000. Authorities noted that two pounds of powdered fentanyl contain enough material for more than 450,000 potentially lethal doses. Fentanyl is about 100 times more potent than morphine, and as little as two milligrams can be fatal to an average adult.
Investigators also recovered four guns, including one AR-15-style rifle, one AK-47-style rifle, and two handguns. Some of the guns were reported stolen, adding to the charges in the case.
Officials said the work of the Crime Suppression Unit was supported by the Elko Police Department Canine Unit, specifically Canine Rudy and Canine Balu, whose efforts were instrumental in the investigation.
The department is encouraging anyone with information about narcotics activity in the Elko area to contact them at (775) 777-7310.
