Carson City Health and Human Services will conduct mosquito abatement treatments by drone on Thursday, May 28, in several areas across Carson City.
The treatments are scheduled to begin about 6 a.m. and continue through about 6 p.m. Targeted areas include Anderson/Buzzy Ranch, Mexican Ditch, River View Park, Linear Ditch, and ponds east of Interstate 580.
Officials urged residents to help eliminate mosquito breeding grounds by removing standing water from buckets, tires, toys, and plant saucers.
Residents are also encouraged to refresh water in birdbaths and pet bowls, clean gutters and drains, and maintain pools while checking covers and tarps for water collection.
CCHHS also recommended people take precautions outdoors by using EPA-registered repellents with ingredients including DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, PMD, or 2-Undecanone.
Residents are also encouraged to wear long sleeves and pants, ensure window and door screens are functional, and avoid outdoor activity during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
People can report mosquito-related activity through the Carson City Health and Human Services website or contact the agency at (775) 887-2190 ext. 80029 for more information.
