The Nevada Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are asking the public to weigh in on a design modification tied to the next phase of Reno-Sparks Spaghetti Bowl improvements.
The public can participate through a virtual meeting available anytime from May 26 through 5 p.m. June 26 at ndotspaghettibowl.com. An in-person open house meeting is also scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the Sparks Library, 1125 12th Street in Sparks. A formal presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The project focuses on Phase 2A improvements, which include widening Interstate 80 between Rock Boulevard and east McCarran Boulevard in Sparks, partially reconstructing the I-80/Rock Boulevard interchange, and rebuilding the I-80/Pyramid Way interchange.
Plans also call for realigning about one-half mile of I-80 north of the current interstate beginning east of Rock Boulevard and extending eastward, along with construction of a new I-80 viaduct bridge between Rock Boulevard and Pyramid Way.
NDOT said the design modification could affect property owners, businesses, and other users not previously identified in the 2019 Spaghetti Bowl Final Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision.
Public feedback will help NDOT identify potential impacts and will be included in a re-evaluation of the 2019 environmental review documents. Construction could begin as early as 2032.
The Spaghetti Bowl project includes five planned phases aimed at improving traffic safety, mobility, and freight movement.
The first phase, known as Spaghetti Bowl Xpress, was completed in 2022 and added improved connectivity from eastbound I-80 to southbound Interstate 580 in one of the region’s most congested areas.
