If you've been driving around on the freeway at night, you might have noticed some ramp and lane closures.
`
Officials say a total of 11 bridges will be worked on in this project throughout the Reno and Sparks area.
The ramp and lane closures will be happening on weeknights from 8pm to 6am.
NDOT says they will be starting at the spaghetti bowl and the surrounding bridges in the Reno area.
Andrew Lawrence an Assistant District Engineer for NDOT says, "The overall project actually has about 11 bridges throughout the Reno/Sparks area, so the project is going to run all throughout the summer, basically, and will be hopefully wrapping up later in the summer, maybe early for the entire project as a whole."
Officials told us this project is focusing on repairing potholes and resurfacing the roads.
They say this project is what they consider a rehabilitation project.
They’re not working to completely replace the bridges but help maintenance the roads to help keep a smooth surface over the top.
Lawrence said, "It's actually kind of replacing there's we call it a surface core, so it helps keep that tire friction on the structure of the bridge and also keeps the surface of the bridge in good condition. So the first thing they're going to do is go out there and work on those potholes, right, the bumps you see when you hit them, when you're driving by, they're going to get those all patched up."
NDOT also says that not all 11 bridges will be worked on at the same time and they will have a strategic plan for the timeline.
The timeline of construction for the sections will depend on what's going on around the bridges throughout the city, such as major events to not add on to the traffic.
Lawrence also said, "Specifically to the spaghetti bowl, we'll kind of be working around some of our big events too, right? We have the the Reno Rodeo coming up, and we'll try to schedule the work in each area to accommodate some of those special events and the traffic that we typically have."
Officials want to remind people to please be aware while driving, stay off your phones, and plan your commute with extra time to avoid reckless driving.
