Sparks City Councilwoman Charlene Bybee has announced that she is running to become the next mayor of Sparks in the 2026 election.
Bybee is a three-term leader of the council and a life-long Sparks resident.
According to a release from Bybee's office, she plans to focus on three main priorities if elected: fixing the budget, relieving traffic congestion, and unlocking land for housing.
Says Bybee, "With our city facing serious financial pressures, aging infrastructure, and a growing demand for housing, we need bold, fresh leadership that’s ready to act. I believe Sparks can rise to meet these challenges with a forward-thinking mindset, smart budgeting, and innovative solutions we haven’t tried before."
Current Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson shared a statement on Bybee's announcement with 2 News Nevada.
"I wish her well, she is just saying what I have been doing for the last 15 years. I have been awarded 'Most effective government official' by different organizations 4 different times in my time leading the City for my innovative approach to dealing with issues of doing business with the companies who work here and our Citizens. Just like I have done my whole career, I'm 100% committed to our citizens and finding solutions," said Lawson in his statement.
