CHP-South Lake Tahoe

California Highway Patrol has launched its first of two Holiday Enforcement Periods.

In an online post, CHP-South Lake Tahoe says these holiday enforcement periods will be state-wide.

Between December 24 and December 25 at 11:59 p.m., CHP will have more officers to increase patrolling to crack down on dangerous driving behaviors.

According to authorities, the dangerous behaviors they're trying to track down include impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations. Authorities also say the public is encouraged to dial 9-1-1 to report unsafe drivers.

CHP-South Lake Tahoe says during the last Christmas enforcement period, over 300 impaired drivers were arrested, along with more than 2,200 speeding citations, including 132 for speeds over 100 miles per hour, statewide.

Authorities say CHP and DMV launched the FAST pilot program to increase patrols and remove speeders on the roadways.

If you're traveling to Lake Tahoe for the Holidays, expect increased CHP officers on the roadways.
