The City of Reno will open its new playground at Miguel Ribera Park, celebrating the renovation with a Community Day event on Thursday, July 17.
The event will take place today at the park, located at 3925 Neil Road in Reno, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Activities will include family-friendly events, a visit from the city’s Rolling Recreation trailer, and complimentary paletas provided by Ward 3 Councilmember Miguel Martinez.
The new playground replaces two aging play structures, kid coasters, and swings that had reached the end of their service life in the 19.48-acre park serving the Neil Road area and surrounding neighborhoods.
In May 2023, the Reno City Council approved $2,010,659 in funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. Of that total, $700,000 was allocated specifically for the Miguel Ribera Park renovation.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible new playground at Miguel Ribera Park, a space built for our families and fueled by community investment,” Martinez said. “We’re creating more accessible opportunities for play, connection, and joy right here in our neighborhoods.”
Ahead of construction, the Parks and Recreation Department conducted public outreach in early 2024, including a community survey to help select preferred playground features.
Based on that feedback, upgrades included new equipment, safety surfacing, drainage improvements, and a shade structure.
The completed playground includes two play structures designed for children ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, along with a tuned drum set, a sensory play wall, a neutron carousel, swings, and rubberized safety surfacing.
