Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of an armed woman who was threatening to shoot people.
It happened around 1 p.m. near Idaho Street and Mistletoe Street in Lemmon Valley.
Deputies say they used "distance, cover and communication" to de-escalate the situation.
The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Marabai Stockton, placed the gun on the ground peacefully and was taken into custody.
In a post on Facebook, the Sheriff's Office says, "Encounters like these are unpredictable and require deputies to continually assess risk while making decisions that prioritize the safety of everyone involved. In this case, those tactics helped bring the incident to a safe resolution."
There were no injuries.
