Flock camera

The City of Reno has decided to discontinue the use of Flock Cameras in the city and will ask the City Council to consider an alternative later this month.

The revelation came in a statement from the city on Friday in tandem with Reno Police Chief Corey Solferino.

"The City of Reno has provided formal notice that it will not renew its current agreements with Flock Safety and BRINC/Motorola Solutions," said the statement in part.

Going forward, the city stressed that protecting the community and officers who serve it remains a priority, and promised that future decisions will focus on technology that strengthens public safety.

“Our decision not to renew these agreements does not change our commitment to technology as an essential part of the future of public safety,” said Solferino. “Our officers need access to tools that help them protect our community and do their jobs safely. With those tools comes a responsibility to ensure they are used appropriately, securely, and for legitimate law enforcement purposes."

On October 21, City of Reno staff will ask the City Council to consider a new contract with a different vendor.

The proposed contract aims to address concerns raised previously by the City Council and community.
