The Department of Justice announced a new Memorandum of Understanding with the State of Nevada to comply on immigration enforcement.

In August, the DOJ designated Nevada and 11 other states as 'Sanctuary Jurisdictions'. But the governor's office later told 2 News Nevada that the state "Nevada is not a sanctuary state and will never be a sanctuary jurisdiction under Governor Lombardo. At Governor Lombardo’s direction, Nevada has followed all federal laws and cooperated with federal immigration authorities, and the state will continue to do so..."

The memo says that Nevada will continue to use FEMA funds to help with federal operations, including designating funds to help Nevada sheriffs who "demonstrated a commitment to facilitating operations by ICE."

The Nevada National Guard will also help with administrative support for federal law enforcement in immigration operations within the state "as it deems necessary in response to requests by federal officials."

Attorney General Pamela Bondi released this statement:

“The Department of Justice is committed to eradicating sanctuary policies across America. We applaud Governor Lombardo and Nevada for taking necessary steps to fully comply with the Trump Administration’s immigration policy. This should serve as a reminder to other jurisdictions: come to the table and work with us instead of going to court.”

Governor Lombardo released this statement:

“Despite the Attorney General’s attempts to implement sanctuary policies, Nevada is not a sanctuary state, has never been a sanctuary state, and will never be a sanctuary state under my leadership,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “The State’s agreement with the Department of Justice today reaffirms our commitment to following federal immigration law in Nevada.”
