Governor Lombardo has now officially authorized the Nevada National Guard to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A spokesperson for the governor's office previously confirmed that the Guard will help in a temporary, administrative capacity.

They add, "of about 4,500 Nevada National Guardsmen, about 35 are expected to go on orders in support of this federal request (less than 1 percent of the entire Nevada National Guard)."

They say all of the involved Guardsmen "will have volunteered to serve on this mission."

Lombardo's office says the "Guardsmen will engage in crucial tasks such as form filling, record maintenance, call handling, bookkeeping, report preparation, case management and vehicle maintenance."

The Secretary of Defense has sanctioned the assignment through November 15, 2025

Last week, the Department of Justice accused the state of impeding federal immigration enforcement. The DOJ labeled Nevada and 10 other states as 'Sanctuary Jurisdictions.'

After the DOJ's announcement, the governor's office told 2 News Nevada, "Despite the Attorney General’s attempts to implement sanctuary policies, Nevada is not a sanctuary state and will never be a sanctuary jurisdiction under Governor Lombardo....
