Carson City students from Eagle Valley Middle School's Green Biz Kids club traded classrooms for shovels on Friday, November 7, joining the Sugar Pine Foundation to restore the Davis Fire burn area in Washoe Valley.
Through the tree-planting project, students gained practical experience in environmental science while learning about teamwork and community action in protecting local ecosystems.
The middle schoolers planted native trees, including Jeffrey and Ponderosa pines, species valued for their resilience and ecological importance in Northern Nevada.
Under guidance from Sugar Pine Foundation staff, students carefully set each tree deep in the soil, packed it firmly, and some even named or sang to their trees before leaving.
Students from Eagle Valley’s Career Foundations in Information Technology class documented the event through photography, capturing before-and-after views of the burn area and the restoration process. See some of the shared photos below.
All of the photos will be shared with the Sugar Pine Foundation for future educational and promotional purposes, highlighting the collaboration between environmental science and technology education at the school.
The restoration is one of several initiatives led by the Green Biz Kids club, which connects students to sustainability, community partnerships, and real-world environmental action.
