Wynn Resorts has announced the passing of Elaine Wynn, the company’s co-founder and one of its largest shareholders, in a touching message shared via Facebook.
The company extended condolences to her daughters, grandchildren, and many close friends, honoring her lasting influence on both the business and its people.
The Resort says as a visionary leader, Wynn played a crucial role in building Wynn Resorts into one of the world’s premier luxury hospitality brands.
Her creative imprint is still seen throughout the company’s resorts, and her legacy lives on in the culture she helped shape. “Her many talents and special touches are indelibly imprinted on the company and still evident throughout our resorts,” the post read.
Wynn was deeply respected by employees across the organization, many of whom recalled working beside her during the opening of Wynn Las Vegas—an event that marks its 20th anniversary this month.
She was also recognized for her unwavering commitment to the Las Vegas community, particularly through her advocacy for education, the arts, and employee wellbeing.
Wynn Resorts expressed its gratitude for the philanthropic spirit she instilled in the company, noting that it continues to guide its values today.
In response to the news, Nevada Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro released a public statement recognizing Wynn’s profound influence on the state.
“Elaine Wynn was an inspirational, pioneering woman. In business, she helped build the iconic Las Vegas Strip into what we know it as today,” Cannizzaro said. “Through her philanthropic work and public service, she was an unflinching, passionate advocate for Nevadans, especially for our public school students. Her impact was felt in the community for decades, and it will continue to be felt for many years to come.”
Wynn’s legacy as a business icon and community champion is being remembered with deep admiration from both those who worked with her and leaders across Nevada.
University of Nevada, Reno President Brian Sandoval shared the following tribute on his X account:
“Lauralyn and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Elaine Wynn, who was one of Nevada’s visionary leaders. It is no exaggeration to say that her reach and her impact on education for school children throughout our state and on a national level was simply remarkable.
You can trace her influence on state education back more than three decades. Beginning with Elaine’s appointment to the State Board of Education where she ably served as president, Nevada found a champion for a whole series of reforms that found innovative ways to connect our education community with the business community.
In 2015 as Nevada made its most concerted push for education reform, Elaine tirelessly traveled throughout the state and was instrumental in building bridges of support for education with Nevada’s business leaders. Although the stakes were high, and Elaine clearly understood the intricacies of education funding in our state, she traveled throughout Nevada always leading with her heart and with a deep-rooted sense of decency.
Throughout her life, she left no stone unturned whenever others could benefit. Elaine was a titan of education, a tireless advocate for youth, and a true champion for the arts. Through her leadership, compassion, and generosity, she transformed countless lives and inspired hope in communities across Nevada.
Our thoughts are with Elaine’s family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by her extraordinary spirit. May her memory continue to inspire us all.”
Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford shared his thoughts on X, saying:
"Elaine Wynn was a force in business, education, philanthropy, and in every room she entered.
My heart is with her loved ones and all those who, like me, were inspired by her fierce commitment to our state and its future."
Senator Jacky Rosen released a statement on X as well:
"I'm incredibly saddened to hear about Elaine Wynn's passing. Elaine was a trailblazer and a role model who showed us how strong women lead the way. She played an integral role in helping make Las Vegas the world class-destination it is today and gave back to our community through education and the arts. She was also a dear friend, and this is a tremendous loss. My thoughts are with her loved ones and everyone who knew her."
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto also shared her thoughts via X, saying:
"I'm honored to have known Elaine, and to have seen her passion for Las Vegas first hand. She cared so deeply for our community, and whether it was education for the arts, she never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand.
Nevada has lost a giant today, and we're all going to miss her. My thoughts are with the Wynn family in this time."
Congresswoman Susie Lee issued a press release about Wynn's passing:
"Las Vegas lost one of its true caretakers today. There are no words to express my sadness of losing a dear friend. I extend my sympathy to her family who she cherished, and her friends, and, quite honestly, to anyone whose life she touched.
Many people may never know just how much she did to improve their lives, as she was instrumental in delivering so much to our state and community. Elaine was an incredible businesswoman because she put her employees and customers at the center of every decision she made. Her trailblazing philanthropy touched the lives of millions — whether it was a kid playing after-school sports, a struggling student who was able to graduate, UNLV, a kid who received a food backpack for the weekend, or any family enjoying the arts.
On a personal note, Elaine was not only my dear friend, but also an important mentor. While I am enormously sad, I can’t be anything but truly grateful that I was able to know her and learn so much from such an amazing human being."
Las Vegas Mayor, Shelley Berkley also shared her thoughts via X saying:
