A missed court date led to an arrest warrant for a Fernley man who had previously been charged with violating Nevada’s sex offender registration requirements.
Joel Sanchez, 39, was arrested Oct. 19 by members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force. He was wanted after failing to show up for a scheduled court proceeding on Oct. 6.
The Canal Township Justice Court issued a felony warrant for Sanchez’s arrest on Oct. 15.
Sanchez is a registered sex offender and is currently in compliance with the state’s registration requirements. However, that doesn’t resolve the earlier charge or excuse him from appearing in court as ordered.
After his arrest, Sanchez was booked into the Lyon County Jail on the felony failure-to-appear warrant. His bail was set at $5,000.
The sheriff’s office encourages anyone with information about a sex offender who may not be following registration requirements to contact its Sex Offender Task Force at SOTF@lyon-county.org.
