Authorities are investing a helicopter that crashed into the East Carson River in Alpine County on Tuesday.
Deputies say a fisherman called 911 to report that his privately-owned helicopter crashed into the river, northeast of Markleeville.Â
Deputies arrived to find the helicopter in the water and him with minor injuries – he was ultimately flown by Care Flight to Carson Valley Medical Center for treatment.
An investigation revealed that the fisherman initially landed the helicopter on the bank of East Carson River, but when he started to take off and leave, a portion of the riverbank gave way and the helicopter tumbled into the river.
Deputies say the man got out and swam to shore.
They say the partially submerged helicopter remains in the Carson River and is not posing any threats to the water and it is not leaking any liquids.
The FAA, Forest Service and California Fish and Wildlife have been notified and are coordinating a response to retrieve it.
