Sierra Vista arson

The City of Reno, in partnership with several local organizations, is working to raise at least $250,000 to rebuild the Sierra Vista Park shelter, a well-used park amenity destroyed by arson in November 2024.

The shelter previously served families, hikers, mountain bikers, and community groups as a central gathering space for outdoor recreation. Once the project is funded, the new structure will feature a steel frame, fire-resistant roofing, and a concrete foundation to improve long-term safety and durability.

A recent $125,000 pledge from the Greg Nelson Trust–Warren Nelson Family has allowed the project to move forward. City officials and project partners are now seeking additional community support to match the contribution and help complete the reconstruction.

In addition to the Greg Nelson Trust–Warren Nelson Family, the project is being supported by a coalition of local organizations, including:Ā

* Biggest Little Trail Stewardship

* McQueen High School Knightriders Mountain Bike Team *
