Golden Valley Road will close to through traffic beneath U.S. 395 for several nights this week as crews prepare for bridge-widening work in the North Valleys.

The closure will affect Golden Valley Road between North Hills Boulevard and North Virginia Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, beginning the evening of August 17 and continuing through the morning of August 22. The road will remain open during daytime hours.

The U.S. 395 and Golden Valley freeway ramps will remain open, although the northbound U.S. 395 off-ramp to Golden Valley Road will face intermittent overnight closures. Detours will be available.

The work is part of the second phase of a project to widen U.S. 395 to three lanes in each direction between North McCarran Boulevard and Stead Boulevard. The second phase began July 13 and is scheduled to continue through early 2028.

After the overnight closures at the Golden Valley interchange are completed, similar overnight closures are scheduled for the Lemmon Drive interchange.

Drivers also should expect continuing overnight work along U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Stead Boulevard. Highway lanes will be reduced overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with U.S. 395 reduced to one lane in each direction. Ramp closures will occur intermittently during those hours, and marked detours will be provided.

Lane shifts will occur periodically throughout construction. Lemmon Drive and Golden Valley Road also will periodically have lanes reduced underneath U.S. 395. The speed limit through the work zone will be 55 mph around the clock.

The project includes adding a lane in each direction of U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Stead Boulevard, along with designated merging lanes between freeway ramps in both directions between North McCarran Boulevard and Lemmon Drive.

At the Golden Valley Road interchange, a new traffic signal system will replace the existing temporary system. The interchange also will be realigned to provide two lanes accessing southbound U.S. 395.

Other planned work includes pavement rehabilitation on U.S. 395 in both directions, sound walls, retaining walls, lighting and intelligent transportation system upgrades. The project also includes new striping, roadside signs, landscape and aesthetic improvements, drainage improvements and wider highway shoulders for additional safety and room for incident management and roadside response.

Traffic volumes in the area have increased from 45,000 vehicles per day in 2014 to 50,000 in 2025. The project is intended to complete the multi-phase improvements to enhance traffic mobility and safety in the North Valleys.

Construction schedules are subject to change, including because of emerging fire evacuation needs. Drivers can sign up for construction text alerts by texting “NorthValleys” to 1-(866)540-8466.
