Grace Church donates $25 thousand dollars to Reno Police MOST program

Grace Church is giving $25,000 to the Reno Police Department to help officers respond more effectively to people experiencing mental health crises.

The donation will support the department’s Mobile Outreach Safety Team, which pairs police officers with civilian mental health professionals to provide on-scene support and connect people with follow-up services.

The Reno City Council accepted the contribution as part of the church’s “For the One” campaign,  which focuses on community mental health efforts.

“I’d like to thank Grace Church for this generous donation to support the Reno Police Department’s MOST program,”  said Ward 5 Councilmember Devon Reese. “It’s great to see a local organization invest in important mental health response and referral efforts for our community, and I look forward to the positive impact this contribution will make.”

“We’re so thankful for this donation from Grace Church, as it will help support the vital mental health services provided by the Mobile Outreach Safety Team,”  said Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance. “Providing our officers with the right tools allows them to better serve our community members in need and respond more effectively during mental health crises.”

"Grace Church is honored to partner with the City of Reno and the Reno Police Department in support of our community,”  said Pastor Shane Marks. “Over the past two years, our church has prioritized mental health through our For The One initiative, and serving our community has always been a key part of who we are. We believe this donation represents the beginning of a strong, ongoing relationship focused on serving and caring for the people of Reno.”

The MOST program has been part of the Reno Police Department for several years and responds to calls involving mental health issues, substance use, and homelessness.

The civilian mental health professionals on the team work with officers to provide support on scene and help connect people with local resources for follow-up care.

The program is primarily funded through the city’s general fund, along with grants and community donations such as this one.

The $25,000 donation will fund additional training for the team and help purchase equipment to improve field documentation, case management, and operational efficiency.

In October 2025, the department launched the Mental Health Online Registry,  which allows first responders to access voluntarily submitted information about people who may experience a mental health crisis.
