Fritsch Grow Garden - Group Shot

Fritsch Elementary School in Carson City recently got a donation that will help kids potentially develop green thumbs.

New elevated grow boxes have been donated to the school by the Home Depot Foundation, in support of the school's "Growth Garden" initiative.

As part of the donation, the foundation also reinforced existing planters, updated the irrigation system, and provided potting soil and bark for the area.

The school's "Growth Garden" is an outdoor learning space that is used to teach kids lessons about sustainability, plant biology and heathy eating with a hands-on approach.

Nicole Sitton, a school social worker at Fritsch, says that the garden not only teaches the importance of growing food and eating what they grow, but the program also helps students with coping skills while being in a safe environment.
