Reno Police arrested a man accused of breaking into a business after spending nearly nine hours searching for him.

Officers first responded to the Crossroads Shopping Center around 5:45 a.m. near Kietzke Lane and Peckham Lane to investigate a possible break in.

Once police arrived, they say they found a man in one of the businesses; he then reportedly jumped into the rafters, hiding inside the ceiling. The mall was shut down, RPD's negotiators and the SWAT team were called, a perimeter was set and the search began.

Reno Police Department Public Information Officer Chris Johnson says, "I know it was a slow search. We wanted to make sure we were able to effectively search each business to make sure the individual wasn't there, and it was safe for the public to return. During the search we requested the assistance of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office SWAT team."

Johnson says with both SWAT teams working together found the suspect, identified as 34-year old Cody McCauley, hiding in the ceiling of the Washboard Coin Laundry and arrested him.

Police tell us the suspect claims he took narcotics. They had to make a quick exit by breaking an opening through the roof and carrying him out down a ladder so he could get treated by REMSA.

The suspect was arrested for one count of burglary, and obstructing and resisting an officer.

Johnson says, "We have to now conduct our investigation now that this area is safe, determine what was taken—if anything—and what's been damaged to these various businesses."

Police do expect more charges to come later as they continue this investigation.
