It was dedicated as part of the America250 celebrations.

Rosie sanders grew up in Mexico and moved to the United States in 1987 at 21 years old and went on to start Rosie's Place and Cantina.

Last year, she wanted a large American flag for her small town to show her love for America.

The community made it happen.

Rosie Sanders: "My dream was to put a flag and it's there now. I'm so proud," Sanders said. "And I'm very happy with how the people helped me to put a flag. Everybody donated, little by little, and we did it!"

The flag originally went up on January 1st, flanked by the Nevada flag, a flag for each branch of the military, and the Rotary Club of Smith Valley's flag. The club greatly helped with fundraising for the project.

To celebrate America250 on Sunday, a local band played the national anthem and up went the flag to the tune of God Bless America.

State senator Robin Titus served as master of ceremonies. Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony and Governor Joe Lombardo also gave remarks.

"We are a state built on people who believe in opportunity, who came here and still come here to build something better for themselves and their families, just like Rosie did," Lombardo said during the ceremony.

Lorie McMahon started visiting Smith Valley as a little girl and moved out there with her husband once he retired. She said being a part of Rosie's story is an honor.

"It's a part of this valley and all of the people that have come together. It's just been just a labor of love for everybody," McMahon said. "And when you know Rosie's story, and to be a part of that, it's meant a lot to all of us."

Those in attendance say the best part of the ceremony was celebrating America and Rosie Sanders simultaneously.

"I think the patriotism here that bringing people together, it doesn't matter what party you're from. this is amazing. and that's what America's all about," said Larry Harvey.

"If you know Rosie's story, how this came about," McMahon said, "if all of us took a thought about that, this country would be a little bit better."

Now, as you drive along State Route 208 through Smith Valley, you'll find an unmistakable showing of Rosie's love for America.

It's part of the America250 events happening around the country.
