On Monday, the J Resort celebrated the completion of its phase one projects.
They say they've worked really hard to continue to elevate their resort and transform their area.
Officials say phase one included the creation of their festival grounds, the opening of a new spa, new soccer fields, and their new front entrance alongside 4th Street.
Today, they shared their plans for building a new 55-story tower that will hold 600 hotel rooms, becoming the tallest in Reno.
Jonathan Boulware, the President of J Resort, said. “Just a complete transformation and revitalization of an area that people avoided at all costs, and as I said earlier, the fact that the July 4th parade is going to be coming down 4th Street, is just really, really a testament to the change that's happened in this area."
Officials say they've been working for over five years on the evolution of downtown Reno.
Their vision is to continue to bring more entertainment, art, and hospitality into northern Nevada.
They'll continue their effort by adding a new Las Vegas-style showroom that will seat a thousand people.
Boulware told us, "We really think it's important we have the outdoor entertainment, but to build, provide a more intimate environment, a showroom where people, for entertainment, can come overall and enjoy. We really think that will complete the entertainment experience that we offer."
Officials told us they're excited for what the future has in store for the Reno downtown area.
They say they will be adding another Reno Arch to the city, on 4th Street, that will also serve as a pedestrian bridge for the resort, which community leaders are looking forward to.
Mayor Hillary Schieve said, "Erecting a new arch that is going to obviously be, sort of one of those places where people can gather, where events can start, where they can finish, and very identifiable, place-making is important in the city because it makes you identify a district."
They hope to create an area that invites people to a destination where they can live, work, and play.
