The Washoe County District Attorney's Office has announced the conviction of Daniel Pena-Aguilar on domestic abuse charges.
25-year-old Pena-Aguilar was convicted by a jury of the charges of domestic battery strangulation; domestic battery, bribing or intimidating a witness to influence testimony and preventing or dissuading a person from testifying.
In October 2024, Pena-Aguilar was arrested in Reno after he battered the 21-year-old mother of his child.
Officials say that Pena-Aguilar had choked, punched and slapped the victim in their apartment, causing her to leave her baby and flee to a neighbor's house.
The victim called 911 and when officers arrived, Pena-Aguilar barricaded himself inside the apartment with the couple's 1-year-old. The standoff lasted more than two hours, until eventually he came outside with the child.
The DA's office says that following the original incident and throughout the case, Pena-Aguilar made many calls to family members and the victim to try to pressure them to not testify.
Sentencing is set in the case for August 27.
