A woman fled her home during a daytime break-in on Thursday, June 26, leading to the arrest of a suspect the following day after officers spotted him riding a scooter.

Police responded around 1:25 p.m. to reports of a home invasion on Grand Falls Drive.

The resident told officers she saw an unknown man in her home and immediately ran out, leaving the suspect behind.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate him at the time.

Surveillance footage from a nearby home later showed the suspect fleeing the scene on a motorized scooter before officers arrived.

On Friday, June 27, police on proactive patrol near 16th Street and North Virginia Street spotted a man and scooter matching the suspect’s description. He was identified as 47-year-old Dean Carter.

Carter was stopped and later positively identified by the victim as the intruder.

He was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges, including home invasion, residential burglary, obstructing and resisting, driving without a license, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
