A man faces several charges after firing a gun near Douglas County deputies.

Douglas County deputies initially responded to a report of ‘someone pointing a gun at people’ near Ranchos Sandpits and the alfalfa fields just before 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies say they found Brandon Nadler inside a car showing a gun to the deputy, but did not point it at the officer. When the deputy backed away, they say Nadler advanced toward him yelling ‘shoot me.’

Additional sheriff’s office personnel arrived, speaking to Nadler. That’s when investigators say Nadler fired the gun several times into the ground and then walked into the alfalfa field. Deputies kept talking to him trying to get him to surrender.

Eventually, deputies deployed a Bearcat armored vehicle. As it approached Nadler dropped the gun.

He was then taken into custody and booked into jail on three charges

  • Assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer
  • Possession of a firearm while intoxicated
  • Discharging a firearm on a roadway

No bail amount has been set yet, as additional charges may be added.

During a subsequent investigation, deputies learned Nadler is the person who called 911.

No officers were hurt in the incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
