The ACLU of Nevada has found success in a motion to intervene in a lawsuit that would have removed 11,000 registered voters from Washoe County voter rolls.

The lawsuit, initiated by the Citizen Outreach Foundation, looks to challenge the voter registrations based solely on data from the National Change of Address database.

The ACLU of Nevada learned of the case and immediately sought to intervene; at least seven members of the organization are registered voters being challenged in the lawsuit.

2 News Nevada reached out to the Washoe County Manager's office, but they replied that they could not comment on the lawsuit.

ACLU of Nevada argues that the lawsuit violates state and federal laws, specifically where they prohibit voter roll purges within 90 days of an election.

"We are relieved that the court has granted us the opportunity to step in and protect our members and Washoe County voters from these baseless and unlawful mass voter challenges," said Sadmira Ramic, voting rights attorney for ACLU of Nevada. "Our intervention will ensure that we can defend the voting rights of those who would otherwise be disenfranchised."

A hearing has been scheduled for the case for October 15 at 9:00 a.m.
