Corruption Task Force

Something new is taking shape in Nevada’s fight against corruption.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced the creation of a Public Corruption Strike Force, the first of its kind in the District of Nevada.

The strike force is designed to focus on cases that involve alleged corruption at all levels of government, with the goal of tightening cooperation among agencies and sharpening how those cases are handled.

“For far too long, public corruption in the State of Nevada has been a scourge on Nevada’s residents and business owners,”  said First Assistant United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada. “Public corruption affects everything from a competitive and untainted business environment with minimal barriers to market entry, labor industries, and the overall standard of living for Nevadans. The Public Corruption Strike Force will ensure that all Federal, State, and Municipal agencies coordinate and work together to pool criminal intelligence and data, and ensure the vigorous prosecution of bad actors violating the public’s trust. No stone will be left unturned to protect Nevadans from corruption, and no public official and/or agency is above the law.”

The strike force will operate within the office’s Criminal Division. Assistant United States Attorneys with experience handling public corruption cases will take the lead on investigations involving allegations of criminal misconduct.

According to the office, the unit will focus on federal crimes tied to government integrity. That includes bribery of public officials, election-related crimes, and other offenses connected to the public trust.

The effort is expected to involve close collaboration with federal, state, and local agencies across Nevada to share information and coordinate investigations more efficiently.
