On Saturday, October 19, at Fuji Park, a total of 13 Northern Nevada Law Enforcement Agencies competed in the third annual Regional Carson City Sheriff's Office K9 unit challenge.
The challenge consisted of almost 40 teams that had to compete in three major disciplines that include detection, patrol work, and agility all of which are centered around the primary duties performed by K9 officers in the field.
The four categories of the competition consisted of narcotics detection, apprehension, agility, and explosives detection.
All the K9 units throughout the region competed at a top level performance the following agencies took top rankings:
- Carson City Sheriff's Office took 1st, 2nd, and 4th place in Narcotics Detection and took 2nd place team overall.
- Washoe County Sheriff's Office took 1st, and 2nd place in apprehension and 1st place in team honors overall with the most cumulative points.
- Lyon County Sheriff's Office took 1st place in agility.
- Capital Police took 1st place in explosives.
- Fallon USN took 2nd place in explosives.
- Lyon County Deputy Matt Galvin and K9 Blady took the top dog award.

- 2nd – Deputy Kepler & K9 Camper – CCSO
- 3rd – Officer Christensen & K9 Monroe – RPD
Explosives Detection:
- 1st – Officer Stewart and K9 Honey – Capitol Police
- 2nd – Weber & K9 Tallahassee – USN
- 3rd – Ramos & K9 Greta – Caesar’s
Apprehension:
- 1st – Deputy Baker & K9 Bodie – WCSO
- 2nd – Deputy Locke & K9 Otto – WCSO
- 3rd – Officer Walden – BLM
Agility:
- 1st – Deputy Soukup & K9 Kai – LCSO
- 2nd – Deputy Harris & K9 Ava – WCSO
- 3rd – Officer Schmidt – RPD
Top Agencies:
- 1st – WCSO

- 3rd – USN
