NV Energy has canceled the PSOM, originally planned in preparation for the extreme fire weather conditions forecasted for Northern Nevada in the coming days.Â
NV Energy says the cancellation is due to updated weather forecasts for Genoa, South Carson City, and Glenbrook.
They say that customers should still be prepared for unplanned power outages due to the high winds that are forecasted.
ORIGINAL STORY SEPTEMBER 9:
In preparation for the extreme fire weather conditions forecasted for Northern Nevada in the coming days, NV Energy is issuing a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) Watch for Genoa, South Carson City, and Glenbrook.Â
The PSOM could affect around 322 residents beginning at around noon on Wednesday, September 11, and continuing through Thursday, September 12 at around 9 a.m.Â
NV Energy says this PSOM is not related to the Davis Fire but is a precaution that they may take to help prevent further wildfires in the region based on the fire weather conditions forecasted.
They say a watch means that certain weather criteria including high winds, low humidity, and temperatures may require NV Energy to proactively de-energize equipment for the safety of our community and to avoid a potential wildfire ignition.
During a proactive outage (PSOM) event, NV Energy says they will proactively de-energize power for customers in high-risk zones to help protect the community and environment from wildfires.Â
They say these types of potential proactive outages impact a small portion of the total number of NV Energy customers around northern Nevada and will be adjusted or canceled should weather conditions change.Â
NV Energy says that residents affected by the outages are being notified by phone, text, email messages, and social media forums. Â
They will continue to monitor forecasted weather conditions and provide updates on the status of the outages.Â
