One wild horse was killed and another severely injured after a car collision on U.S. 95A in Lyon County late Wednesday night.
North Lyon Fire says they responded to the scene around 11:30 p.m. involving multiple wild horses on or near the highway.
When they arrived, they found a heavily damaged Kia SUV and two people who refused medical treatment.
Crews worked alongside the Nevada Highway Patrol to secure the scene and temporarily close traffic in both directions while hazards were addressed.
Sadly, one horse was killed in the collision and another was severely injured. Additional horses were also reported in the area, and Wild Horse Connection was contacted to assist.
"This incident is an important reminder that wild horses are frequently present along roadways throughout our area, particularly during hours of darkness. Please reduce your speed, remain alert, and use extra caution when traveling through areas where horses and other wildlife may be present," North Lyon Fire posted on Facebook.
