Jackknife crash on I-80 near Donner Gate

A fast run toward Donner turned into a pause button after a truck pulling a trailer full of generators jackknifed at an eastbound I-80 off-ramp, briefly closing access and rerouting drivers on Thursday.

According to CHP Truckee in an online post, the scene summed itself up with a blunt line. This exit said, “Slow down,” the truck said, “nah.”

The crash happened at the Interstate 80 eastbound off-ramp to Donner Gate, where the truck and trailer ended up blocking the area.

Crews have temporarily closed the Donner Gate on-ramp back to eastbound Interstate 80 while they work to clear the truck and reopen access.

Drivers were urged to plan ahead and use an alternate route while crews handled the cleanup.

CHP Truckee ended its post with a reminder aimed at anyone heading through the area. “Plan ahead, take an alternate route, and remember.. exits up here don’t forgive speed.”
