Parents of Sparks Middle, Risley Elementary students receive message after a brief secured campus

5:10 P.M. UPDATE:

Parents of students at Sparks Middle School and Agnes Risley Elementary School received messages Tuesday evening after the campuses were briefly placed on a secured campus earlier in the day.

The message sent to parents can be seen below.

"I want you to be aware that there was a report of police activity near our school today. We notified school police and placed the campus on a brief Secured Campus to ensure everyone was safe. During this incident, teaching and learning continued in our classrooms.

I would like to reassure you that the safety and security of our students and staff members is our highest priority every day here.

Thank you for your support and commitment to keeping our students safe."

ORIGINAL ARTICLE (10 A.M.):

Sparks Middle and Risley Elementary Schools were placed on a secured campus Tuesday morning.

The Washoe County School District made the announcement at 9:50 a.m. on its website.

Sparks Police tell us officers were looking for a wanted person and took that unidentified person into custody.

Police say there's no threat to the community.
