Snowmobilers triggered a large avalanche near Latopie Lake. The avalanche fully buried and injured one person, who was taken to a Reno hospital.
A person was air flighted to Renown after an avalanche started near Latopie Lake.
This happened on Saturday, December 27, at approximately 11 a.m. near Laopie Lake in the Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area (BWRA).
Authorities say multiple air resources were requested, including CHP-Central Division Air Operations H42, and a Battle Born Medevac Helicopter.
When crews arrived with Team powder sleds, along with the air resources, they noticed one person out of a group of seven had been injured after being caught up in a large avalanche triggered by one of the persons in their group.
Authorities say the person trapped was unburied by others who were close by.
The Battleborn helicopter, which arrived first on scene, evacuated the injured person and was sent directly to Renown Hospital. CHP H42 then arrived and continued the response.
The rest of the group decided to return to a parking lot by their snowmobiles, according to authorities.
Authorities are reminding the public that dangerous avalanche conditions continue to be in effect.
