A Red Flag Warning is in affect for northern Washoe County until about 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

There is not a Red Flag Warning in affect in Reno, but there is an increased fire risk.

These types of conditions can cause a wildfire to spread rapidly, so local fire officials want to remind people to avoid certain outdoor activities.

"We want to encourage all of our residents to be cognizant and avoid those outdoor activities that can cause fires. Fire restrictions are still in effect. So no campfires or cooking fires with open flames. Be very careful," said Adam Mayberry, Communications Officer for Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue.

Residents should also avoid things like target shooting, off-roading, and barbecuing with charcoal.

It can also be smart to have a fire extinguisher or a garden hose nearby during these conditions.

With strong wind gusts throughout the area, it is possible to see large clouds of ash and dirt coming from the area where the Davis Fire burned, so neighbors should be aware of that.

"So we want to avoid calling 911, but certainly if you see flames or you are concerned, call 911. We are not saying don't call 911; but just be cognizant that it is going to be common on these gusty days to see dust devils and dust picking up," said Adam Mayberry, Communications Officer for Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue.

Mayberry also adds that residents should continue to be extra fire aware until a season-ending event such as snow or lots of precipitation occurs.
